I’ve always wanted to start a blog but never had the time to get started. Being home, for I don’t really know how long, and teaching fully online, I decided that it is about time to let my thoughts flow freely. I’ve been thinking a lot about the urgency that the COVID-19 has put on educators, especially the K-12 teachers, to move from face-to-face teaching to online teaching. For some teachers, this has been like a wake-up call and there is a need to really ponder on the topic.
Online Teaching – Remote Learning
This week has been stressful for a lot of educators, not because they were anxious about being infected by the covid-19, but because they were asked to transform their face-to-face classroom into online learning. Thinking about it, as the world number one country, this should not be a big deal due to the fact that we’ve been talking about 21st Century Learning for a long time. However, speaking about it and implementing it is two different things. Now, we have been put the test, let’s see how we’re going to do. The important question though is: What is online teaching, remote learning? Is posting handouts online and asking students to complete them and grade them online teaching? What about Technology Integration? What does that mean? Really? A lot of tech companies keep sending those links and offers for free accounts during this time of turmoil. That’s very helpful. Nevertheless, is that what teachers really need to provide students with the skills they need to compete in this global world? What about the 4 C’s of 21st Century Skills?
